_Data

Investment in R+D per inhabitant in Spain is 302 euros a year, whereas the European average stands at 622 euros.

The lack of job security in research means that most Spanish researchers prefer to go to other countries.

_Idea

First, we sent a letter to the leading candidates for prime minister in the April 2019 general elections, asking for specific measures to promote science and entrepreneurship in Spain, including a National Science Agreement.

Some of the scientists and entrepreneurs who won Rei Jaume I Awards read the letter in person in a video that the awards published on its channels and sent to all the media.

When Pedro Sánchez won the elections, we launched a second campaign phase, online and outdoor, where the awards directly asked the new prime minister both for the National Science Agreement and for the removal of barriers to collaboration between science and business.

_Results

Pedro Sánchez included the National Science Agreement in the first point of the eight fundamental agreements of a premiership that never came about.
